Permitting online

Building permits are required before you build, alter, repair or demolish any structure. This includes re-roofing projects, water heater and window replacements and other similar projects. Separate permits are required for electrical work, plumbing work, mechanical work, and pest control repairs.

You can now (July 1, 2017) do the following online:

Some over-the-counter permits can now be applied for online.

You can:

**Search for a Permit

You can use our new online tool. and without registering or logging in you can search for property, zoning, or permit information.

These records only go back to 2001, however. If you want information further back you will have to either come in to the counter or fill out the online Retention Request Form

The city has made an attempt to retain any and all building records for each property within the city limits. Any permit records prior to that are located in various sites and the retrieval process can take from 2–4 weeks. The records may include building permits, calculations, plot plans, and occasionally soils.

**Estimate Permit Fees

You can use our new online tool. and without registering or logging in you can estimate the cost for a permit.

The cost of the permit depends on the type and size of the project. The fees are calculated on the total valuation of the project (based on a Uniform Building Code formula) as well as the amount of plumbing, mechanical and electrical work associated with the project.
