Short Term Vacation Rentals
Short Term Vacation Rental Program
The City of Petaluma’s short term vacation rental program--which allows all or part of a residential property to be rented out for stays less than 30 days--went into effect October 14, 2015. The program established requirements, limitations, and complaint procedures for short-term vacation rental property owners or designated managers (also known as “Hosts”) and their neighbors.
Starting January 1, 2016, the City will require the following permits:
- A valid Short Term Vacation Rental Permit ($334.63)
- City of Petaluma Business License ($46)
- Transient Occupancy Tax Certificate (10% of revenue)
Short Term Vacation Rental Application Package
- Short Term Vacation Rentals Program Guidelines
- Short-term Vacation Rental Permit
- Business Certificate Application
- Business Certificate Application Instructions
- TOT remittance form
This program is scheduled to sunset on December 31, 2018 unless it is extended by the City Council. The program could also be terminated on an earlier date if the City Council takes such action. In either instance, existing permits would be valid through the end of the calendar year in which it was issued, but permits would not be renewed.
