Strategic Economic Development Plan
Petaluma Economic Development Strategy
Nov. 15, 2010 - Final Petaluma Economic Development Strategy (4.0 MB, PDF)
During their January, 2009 goal setting session, the City Council established the goal of completing and implementing an overall economic development strategy that places priority on strengthening existing businesses and attracting new businesses that add value. On November 16, 2009, the City Council approved a contract with Applied Development Economics to prepare an economic development strategy and implementation plan by May 31, 2010.
An economic development strategy helps guide the City in achieving and sustaining economic vitality so it can realize its overall community development goals. The economic development strategy builds on the community’s vision, values and goals as articulated in the recently-adopted Comprehensive Plan. The strategy is built on a foundation of inquiry and analysis of economic and demographic data and is supported by extensive public input and dialogue. The strategy provides recommendations on activities, investments and programs to help create quality jobs and a business climate supportive of business development and growth.
