Development Engineering Division
The Development Engineering Division has two distinct and related functions: Engineering Review and Inspection Services.

Engineering Review is responsible for all aspects of engineering issues related to private development projects within the City of Petaluma. Applications are reviewed for conformance to City policies, ordinances, resolutions, codes and standards. Staff endeavors to ensure that proposed projects meet the highest and latest standards of engineering practice. Applications typically include tentative maps, final maps, improvement plans and building permits related to both residential and commercial projects.

Inspection Services is responsible for inspecting and monitoring the construction process. The inspection staff works directly with contractors and development community to inform field personnel of the construction standards required by the City and to ensure those standards are met. Consistent construction monitoring and inspection guarantees the City accepts only the highest quality infrastructure for future maintenance.

Engineering and construction expertise is always available and has been provided to the City Council, commissions, committees, City departments, neighborhood groups and private citizens.
