The City of Petaluma's Police Department is dedicated to providing the best law enforcement services to the community and prides itself on community involved programs. Petaluma has a population of approximately 60,000 and encompasses nearly 14 square miles. Petaluma is situated 40 miles north of the San Francisco Bay Area on U.S. Highway 101, and 30 miles east of the Pacific Ocean.

The Police Department employs 94 full-time employees, including the Chief, five Lieutenants, ten Sergeants, fifty-two Officers, one Community Service Officer, two Parking Enforcement Officers, and other support staff. Additionally, the Department has D.A.R.E. Officers, two School Resource Officers, an Explorer's Program, a Traffic Unit with a Serious Traffic Offender Program (S.T.O.P.), a K-9 Unit, Bicycle and Motorcycle Patrol, Dual Purpose Motorcycle Unit, a SWAT Team, a Hostage Negotiation Team, Patrol Gang Enforcement, an Investigation Unit, and a volunteer Reserve Community Service Officer Program. The Petaluma Police Department is very proactive in the Community Oriented Policing Philosophy.

 

The Petaluma Police Department would like to announce the dates for the next Citizen Academy.  The next Academy will start on April 23, 2014 and concludes on June 25, 2014.   The class meets Wednesday nights from 6 to 9 PM at the Police Department.  One Saturday is spent at the regional police academy in Windsor California (Saturday date To Be Announced).  Click here for more information on the Citizen Academy and to complete an application to attend the next course.
