Lieutenant Matthew Stapleton
Lieutenant Matthew Stapleton began his career at the Petaluma Police Department in 1988. His prior assignments have included patrol, narcotics and investigations. He has held a number of specialized assignments including SWAT and Field Training Officer. Lieutenant Stapleton was promoted to Sergeant in 1996. In addition to supervising patrol operations, he was Sergeant of the Street Crimes Unit, Traffic and Investigations Division. He was promoted to Lieutenant in 2007 and is currently assigned to the patrol Watch Commander's Office.

Lieutenant Stapleton graduated from California State University, Sacramento in 1987 with a Bachelor of Science Degree. He is a graduate of the Sherman Block Supervisor Leadership Institute and Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society Leadership Development Program. Lieutenant Stapleton remains an Adjunct Faculty member at the Santa Rosa Junior College where he regularly trains both police recruits and in-service police and public safety personnel.
