Encroachment Permits
Effective April 15, 2013
The counter to apply for encroachment permits is open the following days and hours:
Monday - Thursday at 11 English St.
9:00 am to 12:00 pm and 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm
or call 707-778-4303 press option 6 for permit questions and applications
or call 707-778-4303 press option 7 for permit inspections

The Development Engineering Division is responsible for engineering review.
Engineering Review is responsible for all aspects of engineering issues related to private development projects within the City of Petaluma. Applications are reviewed for conformance to City policies, ordinances, resolutions, codes and standards. Staff endeavors to ensure that proposed projects meet the highest and latest standards of engineering practice. Applications typically include tentative maps, final maps, improvement plans and building permits related to both residential and commercial projects.
Engineering and construction expertise is always available and has been provided to the City Council, commissions, committees, City departments, neighborhood groups and private citizens.
