The City of Petaluma now operates a wireless hotspot, “CityGuest” in the Petaluma Community Center, 320 NMcDowell Blvd. It covers over 90% of the floor space in the building, including the lobby, the large assembly room and meeting rooms A/B/C/D, conference rooms 2 and 3, club room, the activity room and both the crafts rooms.
When requesting/paying for room reservations, request “Wifi Internet Access.” This fee comes with “As-is”, no support except the instructions listed below.
Instructions:
- User is responsible for obtaining userID/password(s) from the City Staff upon checking in for your reservation. One user/code combination is required for each computer using access.
- User is responsible for the computer and wifi network card, its use, its configuration. The City of Petaluma offers no support for using the technology or using computers to non-City staff.
- User is responsible for the Wifi Disclaimer (see below) terms.
- Computer wifi network settings must be for automatic address assignment (DHCP).
- Computer(s) should be booted with the Wifi running and the access points in range (within the building).
- If prompted, select CityGuest, or set the SSID to “CityGuest”.
- Your computer will obtain a network address from the hotspot server. This reservation will last the duration of your room rental or 10 hours, whichever comes first.
- Once you launch the web browser, your computer will display a web page to log in with the userID/password you obtained when checking in the day of your reservation.
- Once being accepted, you'll have two web pages - a “Disconnect” button and the City's web site. Use the Disconnect when you're taking a break or done with your meeting or event. If you exit or shutdown without Disconnecting, you'll most likely have trouble if you need to reconnect.
- Use the City's web page window from which to navigate to any other internet site desired.
- No network printing is available.
