Certified Water Conserving Residence Program

The City of Petaluma is striving to ensure that every residence in Petaluma uses water as efficiently as possible. The Certified Water Conserving Residence (CWCR) program is yet another tool for Petaluma resident’s to conserve water. The CWCR program was developed as a collaborative effort between the City of Petaluma’s Water Resource and Conservation Department and the North Bay Association of Realtors (NBAR) in an effort to find creative ways to help every residential dwelling in Petaluma participate in the City’s free Water-Wise HouseCall program. The program is meant for home sellers to implement to help market their home. If you are a home seller, please work with your realtor to become a Certified Water Conserving Residence!

The CWCR program provides many benefits:
• Home Sellers – The CWCR program is an excellent tool for home sellers to market their home to potential buyers as a home that is extremely water efficient and is free of water leaks.
• Home Buyers – When you buy a home that is a CWCR, you’ll know that all water leaks and breaks have been repaired and that the home has been inspected for inefficiencies. You’ll also know that most, if not all, of the inefficiencies have been corrected.

The CWCR program starts with a FREE water efficiency evaluation, called a Water-Wise HouseCall. During the quick, easy and informative Water-Wise HouseCall, a trained water conservation specialist will visit your home, apartment or condominium and:

  • Assess how water is used in your home
  • Check for leaks and inefficiencies inside and outside of your home
  • Measure flow rates of all your water fixtures and devices
  • Evaluate your landscaping and outdoor irrigation system

And you will receive:

  • A detailed water consumption report
  • A summary of recommendations
  • Irrigation scheduling advice and programming assistance
  • Information on rebates and incentives
  • Free low water use shower heads, faucet aerators and hose nozzles

Once you have completed the free Water-Wise HouseCall, you need only implement the priority one recommendation(s) listed on your “Customer Priority Action Plan” on your completed Evaluation Survey Form. Priority one items include repairing all leaks and breaks inside and outside of the property, installing high efficiency toilets, installing low water use showerheads and faucet aerators, and mulching bare areas of the landscape. Upon implementation of the priority one items, you will receive a certificate stating that your home is certified by the City of Petaluma as a water conserving residence. The certificate will be valid for 5 years. A copy of the certificate will be on file with the City of Petaluma Water Resources and Conservation department.
